Rana art by Rose
This beautiful piece of art was drawn by Rose, who seems to be my new biggest fan, judging from how often she comments! : D We met on Wayrift, and then on DA, and this piece was part of an art commission trade there. Here is the piece I did as my half of the trade…
I really love how she captured Rana’s spunkiness. She says she enjoyed the character design, and I have to say I am amazed at the care she put into it. Also I like how she does faces, and Rana looks really pretty! In other words, it’s fabulous, yo.
Another thing you should check out is her original fantasy story! It’s very intriguing, and looks like it’s going to be really exciting. The picture I did features two characters from it (who are thus far only peripherally involved, but central plot-wise).
I do have a picture today, but I need to practice before I let myself finish it. Off I go!
P.S. This picture is much larger, but the default resize options for WordPress are a little inconvenient. Click for full-size!
Rana bio portrait
Rana by Moonlight – greyscale
Well, another Photoshop experiment. Not my most brilliant work, pretty sloppy, really, but it’s something new. Greyscale with a smudgy brush of this picture. Painted while listening to Love Over Gold by Dire Straits, which is after all Rana’s theme song.
You like? (I may use this technique again, hint hint.)

Trail of Broken Hearts
So, this picture is a concept that’s been in my head for a long, long time. It’s that the Legend of Zelda series is full of beautiful (or not) women, and they all love Link, while Link the Hero himself only sees Princess Zelda and his duty to her and the kingdom. So, I’m afraid that I did a terrible hack-job on this picture, but I’ll just count it a sketch for now. He’s supposed to be walking down a road (in a city, in my head, but for some reason it’s in the countryside heading towards a crimson-gold sunset. And there are supposed to be absolute crowds of women lining the sides of the road, not just the scattered figures above, each of them named or nameless NPCs that love Link and are ultimately disappointed, while he follows his sun, his light, the very thought of Princess Zelda. Monster colour
This is another Photoshop colouring experiment that I did one day – can’t remember when. I started with the head and went from there. I soon found that the hands of the original were not very helpful… it was a struggle to get them to look half-decent and in the end I think I just redrew them. Tunic skirt looks pathetic, but the torso looks quite good. Too bad it’s obscured by the blubbery tentacle thing. Took me a while to figure out how to make it transparent in the way that I wanted it to be. Navi came out well. The background was a lazy cop-out, but hey, I didn’t use a reference in the first place so I just did something more interesting than blank walls.
Sitting
So, this is the follow-up to my earlier picture here. This one is not as good as the first one. Bits of body are shaped better, but a lot of it is shaped worse. Rana’s eyes are reeeaaaally weird. I like her ankles but the rest of her is even more awful than the last time. She’s too small, too. Link has somewhat more detail, except on lower arms and legs, than last time, and his face is at least recognizable…
Trio
This is a picture, obviously, of Link, Rana, and Saria (sans fairies). They’re returning home to Kokiri Village from a long day of playing in the Lost Woods, where Rana hurt her foot. Again, I can’t do perspective too well, and I didn’t use a reference for Saria. So that’s why she’s not wearing her cute little green boots. Link turned out the best again, but still looks funny.
Link and Rana
Hello and greetings! This was a quick sketch of Link and Rana… it wouldn’t have been so quick if it had turned out right. Anyway, I started with Link’s head, and it turned out GREAT. Izzenee handsome? The rest of both of them, not so well. Perspective was not my strong point, and it still isn’t, to a large degree… Rana’s body is okay, althoug she looks a bit too skinny, or maybe a lot, and her tunic doesn’t sit right, and her head is not so good because, again, of perspective. I have the nagging feeling that I almost got it, that if I just change a few lines and move her features over a tad, it would be perfect. But I don’t know how. As you’ll see later, I tried again, and this time it was marginally better but Link’s face was not so good. I should point out that they’re wearing their clothes from the Twilight Princess period.
