Hector and Lyn (Sun in the Stream)

Sacae is a wonderful honeymoon getaway

Sacae is a wonderful honeymoon getaway

This picture I drew because I’m a hopeless romantic and I like the Hector and Lyn pairing. Besides which, I have this wierd habit where the music I’m listening to becomes related to a current fad in my head. This was part of an Enya phase, so the Shepherd Moons CD has become inextricably tangled with Middle Earth in general, and many of the songs there with Esgalwen in particular – except for the Afer Ventus song, which has Zela stamped on it. Parts of The Celts and Watermark became associated with Fire Emblem. Other parts are still miscellaneous, or make me think of Zela. A Day Without Rain is more Esgalwen – er, I mean Middle Earth. The Lazy Day song at the end, though, that’s for me as in human artist girl.

So, Hector and Lyn are on a date in Sacae to the tune of Sun in the Stream from The Celts. I still need to learn how to draw hands. And I’m no good at drawing romantic pictures anyway. Blah.

Haku

Water-dragon-boy

Haku! Or, if you like, Kohakunushi Nigihayami! I watched my first Miyazaki movie shortly before drawing this, and I though it was really cool, although Spirited Away is probably a pretty drastic introduction to Miyazaki. This movie was probably my whole introduction to Japanese culture, especially the animated kind.

I drew him in “human-world” clothes because I hoped he’d be able to meet Chihiro again afterwards. This picture isn’t the greatest, though (short legs), but I like the shoes. The colours would be for his shirt, striped white and foam green (like his dragon mane), with pale blue blue jeans and white sneakers.

He’s quite the 12-year-old (in appearance) bishounen in the movie.

Death of Ceniro

Ironically, the brilliant tactician is the first to die

Ironically, the brilliant tactician is the first to die

This is near the end of Chapter 30 from the game, whatever it’s called… I’m just going to make up chapter names for all but the Prologue, which is the only one anyone ever remembers anyway. So. Voila. Er… Ceniro is tacticianing, and gets shot with an arrow. And everybody is sad. Terrible anatomy, but at least Hector has a big axe, and although Eliwood’s cloak is missing, he has a nice rendition of his rapier. That building in the distance on the right is the fabled Dragon’s Gate, sort of, and the two blobs on the left are Fiora and Florina skewering the archer with a longbow/ballista who shot Ceniro. This picture just goes to show why scenery/backgrounds are not my strong point. Also there was going to be a wyvern rider in the sky, either Heath or an enemy, but I cropped him out.

Dead Bird

Juvenile robin

Juvenile robin

This picture is of a juvenile robin that hit our deck window and died doing it. -_-7 We looked it up in a bird book. With nothing better to do with it, Dad suggested I draw a picture of it and practice actually drawing stuff in real life. So… I did. End of story. Ta-da!

Tinfang Warble

Those dots are supposed to be stars which are supposed to be blue

Tinfang Warble is a spirit, a fae, as I think Tolkien was calling them at the time, who plays the flute and the stars come out early, bright, and blue when he does. I think he’s in the Book of Lost Tales Part I. I especially like the poem with the refrain “the tunes of Tinfang Warble!” Apparently his music is so addicting it’s almost a physical need to follow him and hear more. I gave him extra-long ears because of his fae-ishness, and two pipes because those things are cool, and sitting on an (iridescent) giant mushroom over a pool based on an image in the poem. I think parts turned out rather well, although from this one and the last one you can see I’m no good at backgrounds. Oh, yes, and I didn’t give him a beard even though his name means “sparkly beard”. I’ve been working on a colour version, but it’s not progressed for about a year now.

Ceniro

The brilliant tactician

The brilliant tactician

portrait3This is Ceniro’s first full-body character design sketch, and he hasn’t changed much since! Actually, it hasn’t changed at all. I faithfully follow every detail of this picture every time I draw him, except when I’m lazy…Compare it with the avatar over there… that thing is based on this picture – i.e. I copied Ceniro’s head into that picture, and then painted over it using FE colouring techniques. More on that when we get to Fall ’05. The avatar should give you an idea of what colours he has, though, like the yellow buttons on his cloak… I like those buttons… His eyes are a bit dark, though. They’re supposed to be a bit lighter grey than that.

Spying on Bern

Spying on Bern

Whoo! (cheers) This is a terrific picture! And not just because I messed up the perspective, left out King Desmond’s hands because they’re too hard for me to draw and have them look like hands, covered the three heroes with cloaks because a) they’re wearing them in the game and b) I hated drawing from this angle! Ha! Ahaha! No, this picture rules all other Fire Emblem pictures becaaaaauuuuse… it has the very first appearance of Ceniro, my tactician! Pronounce his name either Japanese or Quenya, it doesn’t matter – keh NEER row. It’s from Quenya, though that might not be too obvious at first – I had a friend named Jessica, and her name is supposed to mean “she who sees” although some people say Shakespeare coined it to mean “wealthy woman”. I looked up her name, along with other people I knew, and kept that little bit of trivia in the back of my mind. When I came across it again, I thought… that would be a great name for a tactician! I changed it to Ceniro from Cenira, because… I forget why, and the quiet little green-cloaked man in brown took to the field, to accompany Lady Lyn, Lord Eliwood, and Lord Hector on their epic quest. I’m not sure how I imagined him to draw him this way… all I can remember is the finished version right now.

This picture is of the part where the heroes sneak into the enemy’s castle to find out what he’s plotting. The wicked king of the country of Bern is talking to the sinister and sexy Sonia (who seriously needs to brush her hair) who is the servant of the evil mad nemesis, Nergal, who is somewhere else. Fortunately, with the clues they get from the baddies’ incriminating conversation, the good guys (L-R Hector, Lyn, Eliwood) can save the day!

The Ford of Bruinen

Glorfindel reveals his power

Glorfindel reveals his power

Huzzah! Glorfindel saves the day! From Ringwraiths!

This is a scribble to celebrate the Ford of Bruinen. Frodo is on Asfaloth, obviously, and in the back there are (L-R) Aragorn, Glorfindel the Glowing – I mean, Golden – Merry, Sam, and Pippin. I think. I just drew random short people. In between, if you look carefully, are bits of all nine riders. Gandalf was going to be in the corner, but I cropped him because he was lousy.
