Kotor II: Ruin, Mystery, Dreams: Part 9 – Hollow Eyes, Blazing Soul

This chapter’s theme is Torukia! Also things ended up being too long again; this thing is yet another chapter longer than it was previously. : P

Part 8

Part 9: Hollow Eyes, Blazing Soul

Bao-Dur was fully healed from the Sith attack now; after she’d gone to Onderon with Mical, he and Mira had returned to the Ebon Hawk, trusting in Mira’s wilderness skills to keep them alive and uneaten. He’d spent the rest of the time refining Atton’s repairs, and Mira had negotiated with the Mandalorians for more parts for better repairs.

Selyn was happy to see him healthy and busy, but he looked askance at their new companion and called her aside in the garage shortly after they’d gone into hyperspace. “A moment, please?”

“Is everything all right?” she asked, but there was a crease between his dark brows. Continue reading

Kotor II: Ruin, Mystery, Dreams: Part 8 – The Mire

This chapter’s theme is Rise! <3

And it was extremely difficult to write. I may be losing steam even though the ideas are still there. : P

Part 7

Part 8: The Mire

One of the first ‘tasks’ given to her was to compete in the Mandalorian battle circle, a tournament competition that was basically the final step in their combat training.

They just wanted to see if they could beat the former Jedi. “The battle circle is only reserved for real warriors. Your Jedi tricks won’t help you here – not honourably, at least. Jedi rely too much on their vaunted powers. They lose touch with their hands and feet. Without your Force would you be even a match for the lowliest of Mandalorian warriors?”

Mical shuffled indignantly, but she raised a hand to calm him. “That doesn’t bother me. I accept.” Continue reading

Kotor II: Ruin, Mystery, Dreams: Part 7 – Mirror

Trying to get this story done in the near future, would be nice.

No chapter theme this time; mostly filler and set-up except for cards. I wasn’t expecting it to take so much space. Drama next time, I promise.

Part 6

Part 7: Mirror

“While you were gone and I was still incapacitated, a man came to see me,” Selyn said to Mira. “He said he was a friend of yours. Do you know a man with a moustache by the name of Zez Kai-Ell?”

“The moustache, yes. The name, no. But I take it you know him too.” Mira squinted at her suspiciously. “What do you want with him?”

“I just want to talk,” she said. “He’s the whole reason I came to Nar Shaddaa in the first place.” Continue reading

Kotor II: Ruin, Mystery, Dreams: Part 6 – The Lost Jedi

More juicy stuff! Atton seems to be attempting to steal the story… I’m maybe almost getting used to writing him in third person instead of first. I spent a lot of time making sure the first half of this chapter was interesting, but then the second half gave me way too much trouble. Bring on the introspection, forget the action!

Atton’s barfight was scripted while listening to run rabbit junk. Swoop bike chase written with DMC’s Blue Rose.

Part 5

Part 6: The Lost Jedi

He went to bed with his head buzzing, fear and excitement warring within him. He’d told her, and she hadn’t killed him. She hadn’t even left the cockpit, or even her seat. No matter what he’d said to her, she’d taken it, and all she gave back was a second chance. A real second chance, the best one he’d ever been given. She really meant it, too. He knew she wasn’t going to take it back, but emotions faded slowly. So, he was still nervous about seeing her tomorrow.

If any of the others found out what he’d told her… Mical for one would probably murder him. Continue reading

Kotor II: Ruin, Mystery, Dreams: Part 5 – Running and Drinking

Lots of juicy stuff in this chapter, hope you’ve been looking forward to it as much as I have! I had to break Nar Shaddaa in half so there’s more to come next time.

Inspiration track for this chapter is Inner Universe.

Part 4

Part 5: Running and Drinking

Nar Shaddaa was filthy, packed and miserable. The crowds that trudged hopelessly through layer on layer of streets made it so easy for anyone to get shanked by anyone else. Refugees, former soldiers, thieves and thugs and Mandalorians staked out little empires, hiding amongst each other’s company, asking no questions and giving no answers. Glitbiters and spiceheads sprawled in doorways and alcoves, ignored even by the ignored. Enclosed by endless walls of skyscrapers, firmly under the thumb of the Hutts, a smoggy sky was all most of them could glimpse of a life beyond this place. The roads, coated in nameless substances, crunched and oozed beneath countless feet, and the very air felt like it was coated in desperate oil.

To Atton, it was the closest thing resembling home. Continue reading

Kotor II: Ruin, Mystery, Dreams: Part 4 – Winds of War

I think I’ve figured out where I’m going with this fic. Now just to deal with the writing of it. It’s more difficult than I thought it would be. But then, I’d originally thought it would be primarily an Exile/Atton romance, and then thanks to that LP I’ve been inspired to drag in some other themes as well. Not an overabundance of Kreia, because while she might be the best-written character in the game, she’s scary to write. But her influence will certainly be felt.

EDIT: I’ve made edits to this and the previous two chapters. A lot of them have been inspired by the GitS soundtrack, and in fact the rest of the story draws on that for inspiration. This isn’t just a novelization anymore… and I don’t know how I ever thought it was in the first place. This chapter’s track is Replica.

Part 3

Part 4: Winds of War

Dantooine was the first destination on her list. She’d heard the enclave was destroyed when Malek, then a Sith, tried to kill Revan, then in the process of redeeming herself. Selyn had been raised and trained in the Coruscant Temple, but she’d been to Dantooine often enough before the war. She wanted to see if there was anything left, though she was not looking forward to meeting Master Vrook there. She would rather have sought out Master Vash first, but she did not feel strong enough to challenge Korriban yet. Continue reading

Kotor II: Ruin, Mystery, Dreams: Part 3 – Silver

Now that everything’s all straightened out again, I have to do something to occupy myself… and why not finish my replay of this game and the related fanfic to boot? My dreams are going overtime now that I’m back, though. I suspect that all the energy that was going towards adventuring is now channeled into my brain at night and that makes them extra weird. Also, I am in love still with this Kotor 2 LP which burrows into every possible bit of plot and is entertainingly written too. But I’m still going to play it my way, too.

Also, it is stupid hot and humid here. Can I go back to Norway?

Part 2

Part 3: Silver

“Grab on to something!” Atton yelled back into the hold of the shuttle. “This is about to get rough real fast!”

Heart beating slightly faster, Selyn took hold of the hand grips by her seat, her restraints fastened tightly. They were being fired upon as they flew over the partially restored surface of Telos. Who, what, why, no way to find out, only to trust in Atton’s skill and hope they survived. It reminded her strongly of how she’d felt when she’d been dropped on- no, best not to think about that. She concentrated on her breathing instead.

She felt the ship kick forward with a small explosion, heard Atton curse, felt gravity begin to assert its hold on the shuttle… Continue reading

The Woman With a Dragon’s Heart: Chapter 6

Starting working towards finishing up this thing. Got stuck on Sigrun because she was the last recruited for me, so I didn’t get any time to spend with her the first (and only) time that I played. I’ll probably take a while with the next chapter as well, as I’ve scheduled Kal’Hirol for it and it’s not a super catchy quest, although discovering the past through ghosts is really fascinating to play.

I also beat Dark Forces 2 and its horribly annoying final boss, although I appreciated the Star Wars take on the trope where you rush at each other, slash at each other, and wait like 10 seconds to see who actually struck and who dies. XD

Chapter 5, Chapter 7

Chapter 6

I wandered into the dining hall after the first night watch in late fall to find it not empty; Elizabeth and Oghren and Anders were sitting at the table closest to the wine cellar, mugs of beer in front of them. From the way they behaved, they’d been at it for a while.

“Hey, Nate!” Oghren called. “Come join us!”

“What’s going on?” I asked, taking a seat on the other side of Elizabeth from him and accepting a mug of beer from Anders, who was sitting across from us.

“Reminiscing, mostly,” Anders said. “She was just telling us how she met Zevran.” Continue reading

Steins;Gate: Operation Fenris Deja Vu: Chapter 7: Dreamworld Poiesis

Was kind of annoyed at how many people get slapped in this show. Can’t believe Kurisu would just put up with it, even in the depths of her despair. So she doesn’t.

I also messed with worldline formatting to make the R worldline the extra-special thing it ought to be. : P

I know in the movie, it’s Operation Norn… but Fenris is a different operation, a different worldline, a demon wolf who bit off the hand of Tyr when the Aesir bound him and refused to let him go.

I keep editing the end of this story. Hopefully it reaches a final form by the time I post it over on ff.net where people actually read it. Also HUGE thanks to chestnutchris over there, who went to the trouble of putting together a complete chart of which honorifics which characters use for whom. I thought I had a reasonable handle on Japanese honorifics, but man is the system complicated!

Chapter 6: Divergence Hariolation

Chapter 7: Dreamworld Poiesis

I popped back into myself, throwing my arms over my head reflexively and waiting for a deathblow that never came. The world was still in place, nothing was exploding, everything was fine… It was several days earlier, out at May Queen. Okabe was looking at me with concern. “Another failed future?”

“I… I need a minute,” I mumbled, and jumped up from the table, rushing to the women’s restroom. I locked myself in a stall and tried not to hyperventilate, tried not to cry hysterically. What had I done? Continue reading

Steins;Gate: Operation Fenris Deja Vu: Chapter 6: Divergence Hariolation

I gave up; couldn’t get to the past without Suzu-chan! Besides, she has a cute smile. : )

Sky Clad Kansokusha was my soundtrack for Kurisu’s determination, just as it was for Okabe’s determination in Episode 23. : D

Chapter 5: Ventral Pallidum Insomnia, Chapter 7: Dreamworld Poiesis

Chapter 6: Divergence Hariolation

It was the evening of August 15th, and the time-leap machine was almost finished, practice lending me speed in its construction. But right now, I stared from the text on my phone asking me to come to the roof of the hotel, to the time machine that stood there. “I don’t understand.”

“You said that you’d say that,” the brown-haired girl said patiently. “You decided to break out of the loop you had trapped yourself in, and spent your life developing a proper time machine, although my appearance on this date in this particular worldline certainly helped, apparently. You asked me to come back to now to help you out, to get more answers that you can’t reach right now.”

“How should I believe you?” I demanded. “How do I know I really sent you? How come I haven’t seen you before?” Continue reading
