A Thousand Tiny Battles: Talk To Me

My friend commented on the fact that in The Tactician and the Heiress, it’s quite plain to see why Ceniro loves Lyn… but not so clear to see why Lyn would love Ceniro. So I decided to write some short bits from her point of view, each dealing with a different aspect or challenge of their growing, changing relationship.

It’s quite understandable why it might be difficult to see why Lyn would love Ceniro. At the time that I wrote it, I wasn’t sure why Lyn would love Ceniro either. And I was holding out for Lyn/Hector to be endgame. But… then it didn’t end up that way, because Lyn is stubborn.

There will not be 1000 chapters in this story. : P

Talk to Me

For six months, I’d been alone. For six months, it had just been me, my horse, and my little ger, until I began to run out of food and sold my horse, meaning I could no longer wander aimlessly as I used to.

Soon, the food would run out again, and then I would have to find some way to stay alive, to hunt or starve. Or perhaps I could sell the services of my sword, but I had little experience actually fighting and none at all as a mercenary.

Staying alive meant finding some way to deal with the crippling loneliness. With Florina so far away… Continue reading

Anima’s Seal: Epilogue: Rising Star

Episode 13: Tomorrows

Couldn’t resist throwing on a last-minute epilogue based on the game epilogue. Might edit it tomorrow.

Next project, besides finishing the Ceniro painting I started last week (and a bunch of other paintings that it’s HIGH TIME to start) – A Thousand Tiny Battles, or Why Lyn Fell For Such a Dork. : D

Epilogue: Rising Star

“Eliwood! Thanks for coming!” Hector boomed across the inner garden of Castle Ostia.

“It’s truly been a while, hasn’t it?” Eliwood said, smiling at his old friend. “More than ten years since we managed to meet in person. Not since Lyn and Ceniro’s wedding, I think?” Continue reading

Episode 12: Sealing, Part 2       Epilogue: Rising Star

Just a couple more soundtracks… we have Life Goes On for the conversation in Sacae and your end credits song is Dark Pit’s Theme! (and possibly The Mysterious Murasame Castle Medley for the wedding shenanigans)

And… I moved a bunch of things back to the previous chapter because this one was getting freakishly long SO GO CHECK THE PREVIOUS CHAPTER FOR NEW THINGS

I may edit this one and add a couple more details now that I’ve cut down the length a bit so stay tuned I guess.

Also I was going to put the other half of Ceniro’s backstory with Lord Garlent in this chapter, but it didn’t really fit. With the length, it definitely didn’t fit. So I’ll save that for the inevitable sequel.

Episode 13: Tomorrows

Pent and Louise had gone north, so they went west, as fast as they could. Ceniro wanted to make as much time as he possibly could before the Bern Army could regroup and come after them – because that was undoubtedly their next course of action, once they had dealt with Milton’s allies. Ceniro wanted to get as close to Lycia as possible before that happened. Then they’d head north through Lycia, into Etruria, and from there back to Sacae. It would take a couple months, but it would be the best course.

Of course, first he had to deal with the fact that everyone, especially him, was completely, bone-crushingly exhausted. They stopped after an hour or two, when it was too dark for anyone but Lyn to comfortably travel, and made camp a little ways off the road. Continue reading

Anima’s Seal: Episode 12: Sealing, Part 2

Episode 11: Sealing, Part 1       Episode 13: Tomorrows

Moar soundtracks! Well, basically the same ones as last time, but with the addition of Armageddon (whoooo yeahhhhh finally) for Lyn vs. Milton. Then, there’s Not Alone for the conversation between Milton and Ceniro afterwards. And since I probably won’t get a chance to stick it in elsewhere, Beyond the Canyon is my personal theme for Pent and Louise.

I’m hoping this chapter isn’t too over the top, but then Karel is literally a one-man-army-slayer in canon so it’s probably fine.

I am SO CLOSE

but I thought this chapter was going to be short-ish BUT THEN THE ENDING TOOK TOO LONG so a bunch of stuff has been moved to the next chapter

EDIT: I MOVED IT BACK, GO TO THE 2/3rds MARK FOR NEW STUFF

Episode 12: Sealing, Part 2

He burst into a small clearing that was very much on fire, looked around, and took charge. “Murdock, Zephiel, knights, charge the knights on the left! Caddie, don’t extend too far, let Yens take the one on the right! Erk… keep at it!”

Erk had been driving back a wyvern who’d landed almost right on top of Wil, who lay sprawled on the ground at its feet, a lance through his upper thigh terrifyingly close to his abdomen. Ceniro took his sword in both hands and ran past them, towards the footsoldiers that Caddie and Yens were fighting together. Continue reading

Episode 10: The Blizzard       Episode 12: Sealing, Part 2

Oh boy oh boy oh boy I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time. Have some soundtracks!

And there’ll be more next chapter too! Eeeeee!

Episode 11: Sealing, Part 1

Spring had come to Elibe again; Klein was one year old. Ceniro and his company were in Bern, hunting high and low for evidence of Eckesachs, the only Legendary Weapon they had not yet sealed away.

They hadn’t had much luck on any fronts; it was as if Eckesachs had never existed. Even the dark mages of Bern weren’t any help. And Ceniro had this nagging worry… Milton had gone back to Bern after his defeat a year ago. He’d had a year to search for the weapon, even if he’d been sending his associates across Elibe for other weapons. Unfortunately, that worry didn’t do anything useful, and it certainly didn’t help find clues, so he tried not to dwell on it. They were doing what they could. Continue reading

Episode 9: Dark Sage       Episode 11: Sealing, Part 1

This was the last episode I managed to get finished before Camp Nano ended yesterday. I don’t think it went too badly, although maybe the drama at the end isn’t quite as clear as it ought to be. But I made myself cry (briefly) while writing this one! That doesn’t happen often! (so hopefully you cry lots, mwahahaha)

Although all that commentary in the middle… I’m not super sure about it right now. But hey, I can rewrite it later.

Episode 10: The Blizzard

The landscape was white as far as the eye could see, which was not far, as they were in a narrow valley high in the Ilian mountains. They had already been to Edessa, where Fiora and Florina had finally reported to Ilian High Command, and received formal permission to continue flying with the CEC.

Florina had become somewhat distressed after Murgleis had been sealed, worrying over the words Bramimond had said to her. The only place she could really think of to guide them was her home in Pyrene, very close to Edessa, although she said Fiora could lead them there just as well as she could. Continue reading

Episode 8: Conscience Flying        Episode 10: The Blizzard

I did 10,000 words on April 29th. Then I did another 11,000 on the 30th. Then I gave up and cheated because there was no way I was going to write another chapter in ten minutes and I wanted to see what the winner’s certificate was like. : P I feel kind of bad about that now, but anyway this chapter and the next one need quite a bit of editing. I also need to go back and add things like:
– more Farina and Dart in episode 6! (added)
– more clear explanation of the Ending Winter now that I know it exists in episode 4! (added)
And of course, write the final showdown and aftermath. So I’ll still be writing this week, but maybe not in such a crazy way. I can focus on other things, like work and sleeping and hanging out with neglected friends!

Episode 9: Dark Sage

It was October, and they were journeying carefully right into the heart of Etruria. Louise and Klein spent a lot of time with Fiora and Florina, out of range of identification by most people, and Pent stayed close to George and Yens, who were the only other people in the group who were both tall enough that he didn’t stand out, and who didn’t ride a horse like Kent, Andy, and Frank. Bartre and Karla had left them in Jutes again, and the rest of them continued onwards, back across the sea to Etruria and towards their next goal. Continue reading

Episode 7: Old School-fellows        Episode 9: Dark Sage

Stubbornness strikes again! I would like to ‘win’ Camp Nanowrimo so I’m typing as fast as I possibly can while listening to GitS and Astebreed and the usual stuff. I think I can do it! I just have to finish like three more chapters. I got this.

Editing comes later. For now I’m pumping out words. *cranks Destruction of the Core*

Episode 8: Conscience Flying

He had arrived unnanounced at Lord Garlent’s estate on the edge of Ostia City, a short, thin teenager about sixteen years old, with nothing more than the clothes on his back and a letter of introduction in his pocket. He hovered a few hundred feet away from the front gate for more than an hour, trying to work up the nerve to go on, until a guardsman told him to get lost and blushing ferociously, headed for the entrance.

The tall footman looked at the letter of introduction, looked him up and down several times more than was strictly necessary, looked at the letter again, and walked away into the house with nothing more than a curt “wait here” which did nothing to sooth his nerves. Continue reading

Anima’s Seal: Episode 7: Old School-Fellows

Episode 6: The Unflinching       Episode 8: Conscience Flying

Well, I’m pressing on, trying to finish this story by the end of the month. (Looking less and less likely, especially since I took a break two nights ago to play Nazi Zombie Sniper with my bro and co. Also battles are hard with TWO clever people, not just one.) But now Milton’s here! And Renee! Yayness! Now we can kick up the stakes a bit, make this less about “look at all these people you love hanging out!” and more about “omg drama”.

Episode 7: Old School-Fellows

Renee paced the floor in the upper chamber of the tower. “You said you wanted to talk, you jerkface! I thought you meant we’d go down to a pub like in the old days, not drag me all the way out to the Tanquet Pass fortress!”

“So you have been saying the last three days,” the tall armoured man said.

“Where have you even been, the last year? You resigned from Marquess Worde’s service and disappeared!”

“Marquess Worde could offer me nothing. I went back home, to Bern, and then to Khafti on a message from my friend there.” He gestured to the dark-cloaked man standing in the corner of the room. “But I want to know what you know about him.” Continue reading

Anima’s Seal: Episode 6: The Unflinching

Episode 5: Pherae’s Son       Episode 7: Old School-Fellows

This chapter was surprisingly hard to write, and there isn’t even any serious fighting in it! D: Anyway, I’m working really hard on creative projects right now, and I’m going to try to get this finished by Saturday, although I don’t know if I’ll make it. But I’m going to cross a WHOLE BUNCH of things off my to-do list by the end of April. I’m at least at the half-way point with Anima’s Seal!

I changed the chapter title because there was very little about Old Schoolfellows in this chapter. I had thought there would be more. But the big reveal is coming next chapter. Mwahahaha.

I have a new vacuum cleaner and it is magical.

EDIT: the wedding didn’t fit in the later chapters so I put it in here. EDIT 2: I fixed Farina and Dart’s entry to not be so blatantly shoe-horned in. : P

Episode 6: The Unflinching

“Demory,” Thornson said, “I would have brought you to Ostia to face Lord Hector’s judgement, not mine. All you had to do was behave honourably and refrain from attacking villages.”

“Cut the crap, Thorn,” Demory snarled. “You and your honourable cowardice – I should have won! Santaruz should have been mine! But then you brought Marquess Pherae’s reinforcements-”

“Marquess Pherae was only here by chance,” Thornson said. “In any case, it matters little what you believe now. You attacked my villages in a quest for wanton destruction, for petty revenge, and that means I consider you too dangerous to deliver to Ostia. May Saint Elimine have mercy on your soul.” He nodded to his captain. “Jocelyn.” Continue reading
