Doodles, year 2, part 1
Some doodles from second year notebooks.
Daneel Olivaw, Theory class, Oct 5, 2008. My favourite character from The Caves of Steel and sequels, by Isaac Asimov. He’s a robot! With genuine emotions, sorta! Continue reading
Glorfindel, shaded, again
Glorfindel returns. With bad shading… I was trying to recreate my oddly successful picture here, just with the face looking more like Glorfindel. Well, he looks more like Glorfindel… in anime land. Blah. And the shading looks like he got his face dirty. But, this picture marks the point where I first began to be interested in clothes as a part of a picture!
Glorfindel, shaded
And, of course, Glorfindel follows Legolas. It seems like they have a partnership or a deal or something. Except this doesn’t really look like Glorfindel, but it’s supposed to be him. Huh.
So, I was going to draw Glorfindel with Frodo in his arms, but Frodo didn’t co-operate. I also tried to exaggerate the shading, and I think that helped somewhat. This was another turning point in my drawing. I still don’t know how to draw ears. When I figure that out, that will be the next turning point. The turning point after that will be when I figure out how to draw hands. So far I have probably one pair that I’m really happy with. However, I’m proud of the way the hair turned out in this picture. It’s great. The rest of this picture is dumb, but the hair is not.
Golden-haired Elf coloured
Ah, now this is a Photoshop picture. I didn’t know much about using Photoshop as a paint program, but I did my best. I also didn’t know much about shading anatomy. >_<7 The lips are good, if nothing else. The eyes are also just how I imagined them. I rather like the hair, which was done by drawing different coloured streaks of yellowy-brown – must be easier with a tablet – and using the smudge tool. It’s the coloured version of this picture.

Glorfindel Leads Them to Rivendell
Glorfindel! And Asfaloth! Asfaloth doesn’t look as bad as my horses usually do. I still can’t draw horse chests. I should study sometime. I tried to make everything other than him and his horse dark so that he would stand out. He is supposed to have a sort of glow, I think. Like the elves in the Shire, where a faint light falls about their feet. Unfortunately, the shadow faded. Frodo came out well also, and look! It’s Aragorn! Wow! Sort of. Sam is the hobbit just behind him, Merry is the one behind Glorfindel, and Pippin is behind Asfaloth. I had trouble scanning this. It didn’t want to pick up Glorfindel’s arm or waist.
Glorfindel’s Stand
Glorfindel strikes down the evil Balrog! I think this picture is really cool, although the hero is just standing there and the path is empty of the hundreds of frightened refugees that should be there. I like his cloak, for one thing, and the eagles are not bad. That round thing is the moon. Glorfindel’s helmet got knocked off because I wanted to see his beautiful hair.
Golden-haired Elf
I think this is Glorfindel, but I’m not sure. Wait ’til you see the coloured version. The end.
Oh yeah, and nice eyes. This guy, Glorfindel or not, is still pretty nice.
The Ford of Bruinen
Huzzah! Glorfindel saves the day! From Ringwraiths!
This is a scribble to celebrate the Ford of Bruinen. Frodo is on Asfaloth, obviously, and in the back there are (L-R) Aragorn, Glorfindel the Glowing – I mean, Golden – Merry, Sam, and Pippin. I think. I just drew random short people. In between, if you look carefully, are bits of all nine riders. Gandalf was going to be in the corner, but I cropped him because he was lousy.
