Hrulash and Tseo

hrulashtseo2

My two dragonriderboys, in their AU setting of the Rifted Riders (which in itself in its current incarnation is an AU of the original RR, which was set in a sort of bastardized FFIV Blue Planet which was partly Wayriftian and partly very much not). I’m working on a story to go with this painting. This depicts them just before they met their dragon partners, when they were two semi-irresponsible (can you imagine Hrulash being irresponsible? NO YOU CANNOT) noble brats running around a city in Quintus, getting in trouble, honing skills they never imagined they’d seriously use in real life. Continue reading

Dragon Race

Tonight’s picture is a little miniature inspired by this awesome soundtrack. Basically, Tseo just met Hoarwilk for the first time, and she’s like “come on my back and we’ll go flying together, little elf!” So he gets on, and then they see Tseo’s buddy Hrulash and his new dragon friend Garekhen, and they’re like “LET’S RACE”. So they pick the top of that big impressive mountain that’s hard to distinguish from the clouds, I just realized, and they have to go through a stormy cloud layer. Garekhen flinches in the storm, but Hoarwilk doesn’t, and everybody bursts into the sunlight over the mountain and just whoops their heads off like sports fans and it’s all very glorious and everything.

So I drew a picture of it. : D Using my new favourite ‘messy’ brush, even for the dragons and people, just at a smaller size. And yes, Hoarwilk is smaller than Garekhen. Hard to tell? Maybe.

And yeah! That’s about it! : D

Hrulash the Hero

Do you know what time it is? Any idea? It is freakin’ 4:00am, that’s 4 in the morning, and I am still awake because SOMEONE demanded his portrait done for the first time in almost ever. I made so many false starts I don’t know why I kept going, except that he had a very clear idea of what he wanted and he wasn’t going to stop glaring at me until I did it.

…He’s still glaring at me, but just because that’s how he always looks, more or less. Continue reading

Ill Wind is Blowing

Ill Wind is Blowing by Yllamse

Where it’s blowing from or to, no one knows yet. But Our Heroes look pretty determined to deal with it. : D Doesn’t Hrulash look spiffy in his new yellow jacket? But everyone looks fantastic. I’d love to have Xanda’s gauntlets. Or Jayce’s shirt! Or Kali’s belt. Seriously, these dragonriders are well-dressed. *hugs Jayce*

Also Yllamse is a wonderful person and a great artist and I love her. : D

Hrulash and Jayce

Hrulash and Jayce, by Yllamse

So… for some reason… Yllamse drew this adorable little pair on my DA wall at some point. I love it; it makes me giggle every time I see it!

I forget why Jayce is thanking Hrulash, but it seems the dignified dragonknight is afraid of hugs. Hmmmmmm.

Yllamse (and the other Riders players) really like Hruly for some reason! I’m flattered. He’s confused. Hahahaha. XD

She also included Hrulash in images here (as his serious, competent, grumpy self) and HERE… as a pony. XD

RR Night Out, colour

This is a colour version of this lovely sketch by Yllamse; I asked her if I could colour it, and she said yes, so I did finally. : ) The scene is from the Wayrift forum roleplay The Rifted Riders, in which a bunch of us decided to roleplay our characters which we had submitted to the Wayrift Dragonrider contest. Here, the recruits have the evening off. So they go drinking, as one does. Xanda and Kali, of course, get dressed to the nines and get ready to go wild; Jayce is shyly curious; Tiarc’rie the fairy dragon is excited (and technically invisible to all but Jayce); Midnight the minidragon is wondering how to keep her friend Xanda from partying too hard; and Hrulash is grimly bringing up the rear, hoping that no one will embarrass them all.

It was a good roleplay. Too bad I got too lethargic to continue. (as far as I know, Hrulash took an injury in a battle against acidic swamp witches, was laid up in bed, and then prolly someone made him stay in bed until he actually recovered properly. I don’t even know. I haven’t checked the thread since then, except to get colour references for this picture. It doesn’t seem to have gone too far in page length, at least. Maybe we can pick it up again next September?) : D

Hrulash, Tseo, Tseo, and Hrulash

People who’ve been following the Rifted Riders RP on the Wayrift forums will quickly figure out what’s going on here… What is going on here is that the Baronian versions of Hrulash and Tseo (on the left) have met the Adhemlenei versions of themselves on the right, and are either chagrined, mirthful, friendly, or disdainful, as the case may be.

I thought it was a cute idea.

Oh, about the Rifted Riders? Basically, Tseo and Hrulash are young dragon-knights-in-training. Tseo’s a little ahead of Hrulash (and they have their respective partners, still, Hoarwilk and Garekhen). Hrulash is a straight-laced patronizing cranky un-self-confident kid who thinks he just got into the Dragon Knights because of Tseo and Garekhen (yeah, being friends with a dragon would help A LOT, ya think?) and as a result is desperately searching for a way to prove that he’s a good knight, not just a pencil-pusher with a dragon. He and Garry are my mains. Garry’s just a jolly ol’ dragon who wants to see his partner unbend a little. Tseo and Hoarwilk are my NPCs.

Hrulash and Garekhen

Quickie picture of Hrulash and his dragon buddy Garekhen for the Wayrift Dragonrider contest.

In the Adhemlenei, Hrulash is Tseo’s buddy, and the second-in-command of the Royal Guard; he is not that great at combat, actually, but he is the best knight for paperwork ever. But he is rather uptight and impatient, exceedingly serious, demanding of his underlings, and possessed of a good enough tactical skill that people can’t say he only got his position by being friends with Tseo. Garekhen, the dragon, is also quite serious and focused on doing things the right way, but finds an enormous simple pleasure in flying with his friend.

I kinda slopped this together in a couple hours. That’s why the anatomy is a complete fail, even though I did  try, at least with Hrulash… A few things: Garekhen has lion-like paws and no back-spikes. So with the horns and the lack of fins, he looks quite different from Hoarwilk, the other golden dragon we’ve met so far.

Hrulash’s name means Riverwave, and Garekhen is a dragon-name so the kalmaei don’t know what it means.
