Well, Merry Christmas, everyone!

At the Pool
Where does this picture go? It’s envisioned in a Super Smash Bros. Melee setting, but I don’t have enough pictures to warrant an SSBM gallery. Fire Emblem people outnumber the Zelda people, but… well, ergh!
It’s in the Moshou no Nazo (Fire Emblem 1, I believe) gallery.
The walking people are Marth, Roy, Link, Rana, and Zelda. Lilina (looking ugly) and Sheeda are already in the pool.
I draw such short legs. Rrr. Nice sunglasses, though. Link’s got the fairies in his hat. His head is flat. I think Roy thinks he’s Superman or something. ^_^7
Home Again
I can’t decide whether to love this picture or hate it. I love it because of the composition, and the story it tells, and some of the little details like Zelda’s slippers, Rana’s dirty knees, and Link’s eyebrows. Yeah. I’m sorry it didn’t scan so well, but I’m still using sketchbooks because they’re handy to keep the originals all in one place. When I get a massive size scanner, I’ll redo them.
I hate it because it’s really bad anatomically. Link’s legs are too short. His arms are too long. Rana’s hands I never did because they were too scary. What the heck is up with those little stick figure fairies? And that building is supposed to be Link’s house… it’s not a mini-house, but it looks like it! Zelda’s toes are not the greatest, and I am the number one worst person at drawing folding-type chairs. Yet I do it so often. This one is pretty… original.
Back to things I like? I like Zelda’s dress. It’s based on a Greek-ish shirt that one of my friends had. I liked it. Also, Epona is supposed to look reeeaally smug, like only she could have brought Link home! The details of Link’s clothes are completely off because I didn’t consult official artwork beforehand.
The basic story is set post-Twilight Princess, and it’s that Zelda came over to relax and to visit Rana, who was working in the garden, and then Link came home from searching for monsters and was really happy to see everybody.
People in my Head
This is a picture of all the people who were living in a vivacious – er, lively-ish – fashion in my head at this time. L-R Lyra, the High Elf maiden who made Mengil into a good guy, but she looks more like Esgalwen than the girl next to her, Esgalwen. You can tell who’s who because Esgalwen has a dress with lots of pleats and she has a locket around her neck. Lakia stands next to her. Sitting are Rinako, who looks especially good here, and Salir, who you might remember is Sain’s girlfriend in my story. Up on the tree branch is a girl named Cassandra, with bright red hair and raggedy clothes from living on a deserted planet. The two Hylians are again talking, Raelle and Rana, and Raelle has her nice hair again. Ceniro wanted to be included, but my first attempt looked more like my amusing double bass player friend Anthony.
Heaven
More Zelda! This is, from left to right, Link II, Princess Zelda from Link II’s time, Raven, Link III, and Rana. This incongruous meeting is of all my favourite Zelda characters, I suppose, of that time… Sorry about Zelda. She was nice, but the scanner wasn’t big enough. Rana looks wierd. The Links look good.
The other day when thinking about the Oracle of Ages manga, I realized how well the backgrounds were drawn. It really seems like Raven comes from a medieval era, and Link comes from an era that is still medieval but is more civilized, in the appearance of the buildings and the roads and so on. Also, in the ‘future’, there is no monarchy of Labrynna, which adds to the ‘modern’ feel of the ‘future’. Raven comments on the industrious, pleasant look of the future on one page when he is rescued briefly to that time. Also a couple of other plot points make the earlier Labrynna feel more… like a pioneering, budding village. A farming village.
Rana’s Death II
This picture is also based on my own story, just after Link coughwinsthegamecough kills Ganon the King of Evil, only Rana gets killed too. Eeesh, how to explain…
Uh, well, she got shot, but not badly, and then got hurt again and that made the arrow go into a more fatal position? In the sequel (remember, I wrote this when I was young) Nayru and Farore, two of the three goddesses, associated with the Triforces of Wisdom and Courage which are borne by Zelda and Link respectively, were going to revive her so she could become the new bearer of the Triforce of Strength so that Ganondorf couldn’t use it anymore. Eheh. Oh, and she was ‘buried’ inside a block of ice so everybody could see her.
Ummmmm, now I have to decide whether I’m going to actually kill her off or have it so she doesn’t actually die, but somehow Link has to think she does or else the point of the intermediary chapters is zero. Uh, it’ll all come clear when I start putting the story up.
There used to be two fairies in this picture, Navi and the dying Naeri, but I edited them out since they were even worse than the rest of this picture. It’s called Rana’s Death II because I drew a Rana’s Death I and it was absolutely horrible. It had Zelda and Ganon in it too, and Zelda’s hair was good but the rest was terrible. This one, I like the composition (except the fairies) and the pose and shading and all, but although it’s a rather personal picture to me, I’m not happy with it anymore. I was drawing in the style I copied from the official Zelda art for Ocarina of Time, but I didn’t do it too well. The eyes are too high up. Oh, and those Hylian ears are baaaaad.
First Laugh
This picture officially introduces Rana, a young Hylian who I made up. Because I made her up when I was very young, her backstory is uncomfortably ‘Mary-Sue-ish’ or a character who is too good to be true – or a self-insert. Rana, two years younger than Link, was discovered on the edge of the Kokiri Forest by one of the Kokiri children. She was given a fairy and taken in by them, even more quickly than Link, who, as we know, didn’t get a fairy until the beginning of Ocarina of Time. Then, because she leaves the forest with Link (side-kick character) she grows up during the seven years he sleeps in the Sacred Realm.
During this time, she turned from a chubby little girl into a lithe, wiry acrobat-fighter. She uses a Hylian sword, of course, but it takes her a long, long time to find one. She was captured when she was fifteen, and had to wait two long, mind-cracking years to be rescued by Link when he came back. She had what her fairy Naeri called “over-developed vengeance complex”, and this picture is of her healing.
Link, after he beats the Forest Temple, goes to the Great Deku Tree’s glade and sees a tiny plant… which explodes out of the ground into a small tree, scaring him. He falls over on his back, yelling in fright… and realizes that nothing’s attacking him. So, when he found Rana couldn’t laugh anymore, he eventually took her there and copied what he had done, and she stared – and then laughed. Yes! Score one for the hyper side!
Merry Christmas from Elfinessé 2006
Merry Christmas from the ‘staff’ here at Elfinessé!!! That’s Zela, in back, Flairé, the goofball with the sock, Ceniro, holding his hat, and Rana, confused by the tip of her hat.
