Zela

Graceful and tall

Graceful and tall

This is a nice picture of Zela because it is shaded: hooray! I like it a lot, and her stick-like fingers are quite good. And her spine is there, and folds in her skirt, and her hair is all right.

This is Flair, and Zela, dancing. It’s not one of my worse pictures, but their heads seem a bit small. I think they need to be more slender. And the legs aren’t too short, for once… Flair in particular has a nice face. Zela’s supposed to be the exact same height as he is, so she’s bending a little. Doesn’t actually look so bad on the computer.

I can’t draw hands yet.

A Zela picture with Zela in it! How rare!

This was drawn on holiday at my former piano teacher’s fishing resort. My dad did a webpage for her so she gave us a free package. So we invited my grandparents over and we all went fishing. Mom and Grandma and I all went together for an afternoon, and the next day Dad and Grandpa and my brother all went. Also some orcas swam through, which meant that we weren’t catching much.

But this has nothing to do with drawing a picture. The picture comes from the fact that there is absolutely gorgeous scenery around that resort, perfect for Zela. So, I drew her and her husband in an area that looks remarkably like the bay outside my window. I like her tunic dress. Flair is so very short. I miscalculated the page. Blah. I still like the picture, even if the artwork itself is mediocre.

Zela and Flair Dancing

I know you, I walked with you once upon a (waking) dream

This picture is of Zela and Flaer dancing, and I drew it after watching a very romantic movie with lots of dancing: Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. I kind of like the artificial way that her dress swirls… Here I was going for the same kind of tall slenderness that I got in the first picture, but it didn’t work as well, especially with Flaer because he’s not wearing a robe, he’s wearing a tunic-ish shirt thing. Whatever them medieval-type folks wore. As you can see, he now has long black hair, and they are the exact same height.

Dancing is an important part of Flaer and Zela’s relationship.

Zela’s first look

This is my first picture of Zela, my first really original character. It’s so old, it’s on scrap paper without a date and I almost couldn’t find it again in my folder of ‘really old elf stuff’. This was drawn somewhere around 2001, I think. I did remember that it existed, and I wanted it to be the first here. She’s evolved a lot since then! Still, this is the first picture of her, so it’s special. I still try to get the tall slim look I achieved here, even if I’m much more advanced everywhere else (it’s the leaning tower of Zela!). I draw short legs unless they’re hidden by a long skirt, so that is my problem.
